17. The Snowball Fight

1. Step 1

   1. Alexander is a staff member, so he is either in the Gear Room or the Office.
   2. He wasn't in the third column, so he is in column B.
   3. Brett was beside the purple rug, so he is either on C1 or B2.
   4. Alexander is blocking column B, so Brett is on C1.
   5. So, Brett is on C1.

2. Step 2

   1. Someone else in Cynthia's area was sitting on a bench.
   2. Brett is blocking the blue benches on C3, C4 and C7.
   3. Alexander is blocking the green bench on B3.
   4. So the only bench left is the green bench in the Warming Hut.
   5. That means Cynthia is in the Warming Hut, and someone else is on that bench.
   6. Staff members are never in the Warming Hut.
   7. Daniel was beside a rug, and the only rug a player can reach is in the Warming Hut.
   8. So Violet can't be there, or the Warming Hut would hold three people.
   9. Edward was in a corner, and Farrah was in front of a window.
   10. The bench has neither.
   11. So Daniel is on the bench, on E7 beside the blue rug.
   12. So, Daniel is on E7.

3. Step 3

   1. Cynthia is in the Warming Hut, and Daniel is blocking row 7 and the bench.
   2. So, Cynthia is on F6.

4. Step 4

   1. Farrah was in front of a window, so she is either on C3, D3 or G7.
   2. Brett is blocking C3, and Daniel is blocking G7.
   3. So, Farrah is on D3.

5. Step 5

   1. Alexander is either on B1, B2 or B6.
   2. Brett is blocking B1, and Cynthia is blocking B6.
   3. So, Alexander is on B2.

6. Step 6

   1. Edward was in a corner of an area, so he is either on A5 or G5.
   2. Let's assume Edward is on G5, and test it.
   3. Then Violet would be on A4, in the Food Tent.
   4. Nobody else is in the Food Tent.
   5. But Violet was alone with exactly one other person.
   6. So Edward is on A5.
   7. That leaves G4 for Violet.
   8. So, Edward is on A5.

7. The answer

   1. Violet was on G4, alone in the Field with Farrah.
   2. Farrah is the murderer!
